Our Vision

transforming lives . changing the world

St Bs has really grown in the last 25 years. Through a fresh experience of the Holy Spirit a new church has emerged.
St Barnabas has become a large visionary community with a passion to see God at work amongst us. We are passionate about our faith, about the Bible and about God. And we also believe that our church should be a community of love, fun and laughter. We are committed to seeing our lives transformed by an experience of the love of God, and then sharing all that we have received with a hurting world desperately in need of Jesus’ love.

Our Vision is to become a community that transforms the lives of thousands of individuals and then moves outward to see the world changed for Christ.

Transforming lives through:

The Holy Spirit
Dependence on God to empower us with the Holy Spirit is central to our belief that, left to our own devices, we cannot change, as it is God who transforms lives.

The Bible – the Word of God
The Bible has everything we need to discover the truth about God, us and the world. It has the words of eternal life. Through it we can hear God’s voice speaking directly into our lives.

Conversion
Jesus said, “I tell you the truth, no-one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again” (John 3:3). As a result we long to lead as many people to faith in Christ as possible.

Healing
Many people have found life to be a bruising experience and we have all been corrupted by our own selfishness to some degree. Our vision is to enable people to be healed and have their lives transformed into Christ-likeness.

Training
Our lives need to grow beyond merely being rescued by Jesus. In order to fulfil our destiny in Christ we need to be trained and equipped for fruitful life and ministry.

Engaging
In the last 25 years our society has gone through an unprecedented philosophical shift. At St Bs we believe we need to engage with contemporary culture in order to relate most effectively in today’s society.

Changing the world through:

God’s power
We want to know the power of God at work in us. This means actively seeking to use the gifts of the Holy Spirit as the tools to minister to the world, in the way Jesus ministered.

Serving
Jesus said: “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45). It is through serving our local communities that we express Jesus’ love amongst them.

Reaching out
Our vision is to reach across traditional geographic boundaries to the networks we all relate to in our fast-paced London life. So from our base in North Finchley we aim to reach out to a large part of North London.

Resourcing
As a larger church we feel called to provide encouragement and resources to the wider Christian community, aware that we are able to do some things smaller churches cannot, and so help the whole body of Christ.

Planting
We believe that living things naturally grow. Our vision is to be a church that is, from a strong central base, regularly planting new churches and congregations that will, in turn reproduce themselves.

Sending
The great commission Jesus gave us is all-encompassing. Our calling is no less than to be sending out workers into church leadership and into every corner of the world.
