Adventure

Sunday 1 March - Sunday 5 April 2015

2014 was a year of seeking the Lord for our future at St Bs. We launched our Go & Grow project as we sought to Move for Mission. Yet we feel the prayer of Moses:

If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here. Exodus 33:15

For the month of March and leading into Easter we will be radically refocusing on Jesus, and stripping everything else away. This time will be all about His presence and His provision.

We will be undertaking a month of adventure together. We’re going to let Jesus set the agenda, and dedicate ourselves to following however He leads us this month. Through spiritual disciplines as a community we’ll travel together, as we dedicate ourselves to journeying deeper into faith and following Him.

What is the adventure?
Our prayer for the past year has been the prayer of Jehoshaphat:

We are powerless against this great multitude that is coming against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you. 2 Chronicles 20:12

Throughout the month we’ll be fixing our eyes on the Lord together and allowing Him to set the agenda. Our adventure in will include being united in rhythms of prayer and worship as we seek to know more of God in our lives, as individuals and in our community. Our adventure out will include continuing to seek God’s provision as a community.

There will be three principles that we’ll be following together during this adventure.

Travel light
We’ll use the spiritual discipline of fasting to create the space for our adventure. You could try fasting your midday meal to read through the daily readings and to pray, or you could cut out your usual use of television or Facebook as an outward sign of your inner desire.

Carry a map
Throughout this season we’ll be reading three chapters of a gospel a day together. Each reading will involve ‘truth and dare’, as we seek to follow Jesus on both an inward journey of faith as a community, and on an outward journey into our world.

Travel together
Make sure that throughout this month you share this journey with others. As part of this we’ll be providing a base for prayer and worship, 24/7 in the Tubeside Hall at St Barnabas. This Prayer Base will be open for you to bring your 2to4 group, your Missional Community, your ministry or your friends to come and seek Jesus together.
